Support Questions / Visual Studio Beginner Resources

Hello all.

I haven't sat down and written any text based code since i was in university 15 years ago, and my experience then was mostly in Basic and Pascal.  Visual Studio is a mystery to me.  Just trying to do simple things like using internal variables to show/hide buttons is making me pull my hair out.

So do you guys know some good tutorials to get used to the layout and structure?

Open Discussion / AdvancedHMI Arduino and OPC
« on: July 18, 2017, 11:25:39 PM »
Hello guys,
I have been doing a bit of digging and not found a whole lot on this topic, mostly google turns up RS232 stuff when asked the title.

The guys over here,  https://www.st4makers.com/opc-server-for-arduino, have built a nice little OPC server for Arduino, after a little playing around I am turning the onboard LED on/off from the HMI screen.

Not much to setting it up either, just follow his install instructions.  I loaded the UNOled sketch from the arduino IDE. Then I used dOPC to scan and make sure the Arduino server was running and get the proper server name.  Pop that into advancedHMI with the proper variable name on the button and up and running.

Hope this helps a few other guys.

I am glad it's working out for you, atleast I dont have to test it out. Was the packet size the key here?

Looks like your plumbing skill is better than wiring skill :=) . I did have a really good offer from the very same company that was in the picture. They told me, at the time, that I would get a monthly "stipend" in the form 24 can of beers , i think. hehe. I turned them for family reason.

The driver re-install was what eventually did the trick, but I don't really have much of a desire to work backwards and figure out where it stops working.

I put about 15 hrs of programming in this weekend, when I finish the wiring up and it works I'll put a thread up I the projects section.

Yup my node set to 0 and target node set to 1, lowest packet size I can set is 92. Still no luck, I'm going to try reinstalling the driver

Did a little more reading and digging and the PLC is for sure on Node 1, Node 0 is Rs linx

Also ungraded to 3.99w

Still no luck though, will keep digging today.

Sorry guys I got busy at work last few days, but I should have some time tommorow to work at this a bit.

Bachphi I forgot that the settings are a bit different.  I posted the question on PLC talk some time ago and had some info from Ken Roach here http://www.plctalk.net/qanda/showthread.php?t=99426 and thats where my settings come from.  I'm tempted to ask him for some advice as he's very active on that forum and knows his Allen Bradley.

My brewery isn't much of a looker yet but its coming along

And a quick P&ID i did up

You just cannot use the UIC with AdvanceHMI, just not work because the UIC uses a special DF1 protocol. Thats why in Rslinx the driver is 1770-KF2/1785-KE/SCAN... and not the normal DF1/Micrologix/PanelView. But i think, not shure, the SLC 5/02 as a RS232/DF1 port.

that would explain it then, but the 5/02 is DH485/rs485.

Yes that is the driver I have installed, followed those exact instructions.

Just to make sure RSLinxs isn't hogging the com port I re-ran a bunch of things after changing the UIC to com9 and still absolutely nothing.

Will try upgrading AHMI tomorow

Rslinxs is for sure shutdown, I checked through the task manger as well.  Auto configure does not work with the UIC adapter, those settings were entered manually, so they are definitely right. Archie I will try upgrading to w but it will have to wait until Friday, the Leafs are playing and I have work next few days.

It would be nice to get this working, so many of these PLCs and cards can be had for dirt cheap on eBay they just need a cheap HMI to repupose them.
